Hopeless by Colleen Hoover ✰✰✰✰✰+

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

Recommended for readers 17+ due to sexual content, harsh language and heavy subject matter.

My Casting

Oh. My. God! Blown away, completely blown away! Three words – Fan.Fucking.Tastic! I think this has to be one of my top ten, if not top five, this year!

“The sky is always beautiful. Even when it’s dark or rainy or cloudy, it’s still beautiful to look at. It’s my favourite thing because I know if I ever get lost of lonely or scared, I just have to look up and it’ll be there no matter what…and I know it’ll always be beautiful.”

1. The condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.
2. A person or thing perceived as the embodiment of such a condition, state, or quality.
3. Dean Holder

“Dean Holder? Messy brown hair? Smoldering blue eyes? A temper straight out of Fight Club?”

I am so in love with Holder right now, I can’t even explain. Everyone needs to read this book, like, today!

The book was great up to about the 60% mark… after that, it was awesome. I seriously couldn’t get enough of it. I adored Sky, I’d sell my soul to Holder and the story was utter genius. Yes, I’m gushing, I don’t care!

Sky was one of the best heroines in the history of book heroines! She was strong, relate-able, witty and loveable. I loved her sense of humour. I found her instantly easy to connect with.

“This is Holder. Holder is not my boyfriend, but if I catch him trying to break the record for the best first kiss with another girl, then he’ll soon be my not breathing non-boyfriend.”
Holder arches an eyebrow at me and a hint of a smile plays in the corner of his mouth. “Likewise.”

I don’t even know where to begin with Holder. I think the definition above pretty much sums up my feelings for this book GOD! He is just devine, scrummy, perfect, gorgeous, sensitive… did I mention perfect?! Aaah, move over book boyfriends, there’s a new guy in town! His name is Dean Holder and I want him In. My. Bed. Now!

“Lust is the best of all the deadly sins.”

Oh my goodness, Sky and Holder’s relationship was scrumptious. The sexual tension. Mmmmm mmmmm!!! I was a little hot under the collar more than once. Holy sexgods!

“You can hold my hand, you can run your fingers through my hair, you can straddle me while I feed you spaghetti, but you are not getting kissed tonight. And probably not tomorrow, either. I need this. I need to know for sure that you’re feeling every single thing that I’m feeling the moment my lips touch yours. Because I want your first kiss to be the best first kiss in the history of first kisses.”

And some of the heart to hearts literally melted me from the inside out. I was one big melted, swooning puddle of infatuated gloop.

“Fuck all the firsts, Sky. The only thing that matters to me with you are the forevers.”

God, I didn’t even get started on the actual story yet. So powerfully moving. I cried, God did I cry! I never saw it coming and was completely blindsided in the best possible way. And then, when it happened, I had no idea how it could possibly turn out ok… and then it did. And I was so grateful. And I never wanted it to end. And… *happy sigh*

“I live you so much.”

Soooo cute.

I could go on and on about this book all day long. I will definitely be putting this on my re-read list and will be getting the paperback. It was totally breathtaking. There’s nothing more to say. Other than… Read it!!

I agree with every single word. I loved Hopeless. Colleen Hoover is brilliant and Dean Holder is absolutely amazing. The book had the correct ingredients of mysterious, hot, sweet, cute, emotional, angst and gripping… At one point I needed a “chapter break” myself. I couldn’t bear to see what was going to happen next, but when I put the book down, I couldn’t bear to think about anything else, so I had to pick it back up. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Colleen for your wonderful gift of words.
