Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.
Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it’s summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.
Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.
Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.
I absolutely adored The Secret of Ella and Micha! It was a really heart wrenching story. So honest and raw. The characters are loveable, tormented and well developed. I was completely invested in this story from the very first page, where you are thrown head first into the emotional deep end of the harrowing lives of Ella and Micha.
You couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the gorgeous Micha within just the first couple of chapters. I loved that he was so certain of his feelings for Ella and never wavered from that certainty!
“I love you, Ella May and nothing will ever change that. You can push me away -run away – and I will still love you.”
A music playing, tattooed, supposed bad boy with a weakness for fast cars and easy lays… but with such a fierce passion burning for the girl that has been his friend, and is most certainly his soulmate, since childhood. Could that be any sweeter?
Although it took Ella so long to get her head straight, it didn’t drag and it wasn’t frustrating, like so many of these books can be. It made sense and it felt emotionally true to the story. I really liked her character. She had dealt with so much and was strong in so many ways, but completely tortured by her past and her relationship with Micha was adorable.
“Just kiss. I swear to God that’s all we’ll do.” I move my finger away from her lips. “And kissing’s not that scary, right?”
“With you it is,” she says truthfully.
The sexual tension in this book is rife! It had me hot under the collar on more than one occasion and the author built the sparks expertly to lead up to some great sex scenes and a very emotive ‘first time’.
It was refreshing that once they’d decided to make a go of things together, they committed to that. They didn’t make bold, damaging assumptions that split them up for weeks on end due to miscommunication, they didn’t lie and withhold truths with well intended bad judgement… they just loved each other and helped each through deeper, darker demons.
When it all comes down to it, it’s just me and her against the world. Always has been.
There is a beautiful epilogue at the end which made my heart melt. It was a beautiful story and I can’t wait for the next of Ella and Micha’s stories.
